Job Description:
The First Chinese United Methodist Church in Fremont, CA is seeking a full-time minister for the Chinese-speaking congregation. The full-time minister shall work with the pastoral staff as a team, in which the Senior Pastor is the team leader, to fulfill the mission our Lord Jesus Christ has given to us.
Scope
The full-time minister is to nurture and shepherd the Chinese-speaking congregation. He will assist in various ministries within the congregation, leading to the completion of the total vision and mission of the church.
Job Description
The full-time minister's preaching and teaching duties include:
• Preaching on pulpit on Sunday worship service
• Preparing Sunday worship details
• Teaching adult Sunday school
• Leading a small group when needed
• Equipping and empowering lay leaders
The minister's other duties include:
• Visitation of members and visitors
• Counseling members of the congregation
• Participate in deacon meetings
• Administer ordinances
• Participate in prayer meetings
• Participate in evangelism and missions
Pastoral Team
The full-time minister is part of the Pastoral Team which is headed by the Senior Pastor. The Pastoral Team shall work with and be accountable to the Deacon Board.
Office Hours
The Associate Pastor shall keep regular office hours at the church office and shall coordinate his hours with the Senior Pastor.
Review
The probationary period is 6 months and includes reviews for consecutive 5 month periods and a final review. The successful candidate must be a graduate of an accredited bible college or seminary in North America, Master of Divinity degree or higher preferred. The person must have a passion to shepherd a church and a passion for evangelistic work to American Chinese population. The person must have good interpersonal skills and a team player. The person must have three or more years of pastoral experience in North America, with experience in Chinese American churches helpful. The successful candidate must be fluent in spoken and written Mandarin. The ability to communicate in English is required. It is preferable that the successful candidate be ordained and married. There is no ethnicity preference. The person must agree with The United Methodist's “Missions, Values, Vision, and Strategy” and abide by its constitution. Moreover, the successful candidate must transfer membership to FCUMC. A background and credit check will be conducted on the successful candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
