Job Description:Director of Music
The First Baptist Church of Oakland encourages people to grow in their walk with Jesus Christ through transformational public worship, music being an integral part of this experience, both by mood and the content of the words. We are led in ministry by the highest directives of God our Father; “Love God, Love others, Save lives through Jesus Christ”.
To this end we ask the Director of Music to work with the music team in the development and leading of weekly worship and special services to:
-plan and lead (or oversee) the worship music for the Sanctuary Choir and Praise team;
-develop talent
-work with soloists
-play the piano and organ as needed.
-to maintain and develop the Youth Music Program:
-plan and oversee teaching and rehearsal of vocal groups to increase their musical proficiency and appreciation of music in worship,
-plan and oversee special programs in conjunction with Christian Education.
--to coordinate, lead and develop the overall music ministry of the Church:
-work with and report to the Pastor the development, plans and progress of music programs;
-request and administer budget
-participate on the Church Leadership Council
-coordinate the maintenance of all musical instruments
-maintain and develop the music library
-work with staff and ministries to plan and coordinate the unified ministry of the church within the building and throughout the community.
-to oversee and develop non-traditional musical offerings
-plan and coordinate concert series
-work with appropriate leaders/groups to plan and develop special offerings such as talent/variety shows, recordings, etc.
-be a liaison to the larger community in developing cooperative programs.
