Assistant to the Rector Christ Church Easton, MD Category: Associate Pastor Posted on: September 23, 2010
Job Description:
We seek an ordained Episcopal priest, although an ordained clergyperson with an orthodox Christian theological and liturgical compatibility would certainly be considered.
This position is not suitable for those who are looking to retire soon or those who are risk-averse. The parish is at a "make-or-break" growth plateau, and has been for a period of years. As a consequence, we have mission callings and ministry opportunites that are being underserved. However both our finances and our ministries are stretched. The appropriate candidate for this position will be ready for a challenge and have the heart of an entrepeneur.
We have an evangelical orientation; and we seek someone with a solid faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that worship is a principle form of Gospel proclamation and are intent on growing in this work, both in its current forms and in the development of new services. We seek a dependible and capable person with graceful liturgical skills, as well as a driving desire to grow the church. One of our goals is the development of relevent worship services; and the candidate will have a principle leadership role in this work. Strong preaching ability is considered a substantial factor in a candidate's consideration.
We are most interested in candidates who have organizational and leadership ability; as well as skills, experience, and enthusiasm for Christian formation, teaching, and program development. The person invited into this ministry will have an appreciation for and an inclination toward the fundamentals of pastoral ministry: home and hospital visitation, teaching, and preaching. He/She must therefore demonstrate talents and some experience in this area of ministry.
Christ Church is intent on growing a comprehensive faith community that will call, prepare, and encourage all people in their lives as Christians. We are seeking someone who will bring the gifts and calling necessary to help this come to fruition. Previous parish experience is desirable, and an appreciation for the real dynamics and work of growing congregations would be most helpful.
We are seeking someone who has true gifts for preaching the Word with conviction, clarity, hope, love, and relevance; who teaches well, even as he or she helps to identify and raise up and support the development of teachers and leaders in our midst; and who brings a compassionate faith and prayerful presence during times of crisis, as well as in his/her own daily life and witness. We seek someone who finds joyful excitement and a sense of fulfillment in his/her heart and soul working with people in the exercise of the Gospel.
